The lights are out... so why are you knocking?

I am going to rant for just a minute (it is my blog so...)! Okay. When I was a kid we participated in Halloween- most people do. BUT my parents always made sure that I respected people who had their lights off and shades drawn BY NOT KNOCKING ON OR RINGING THEIR DOORBELL. I must have been mistaken that the universal sign for "Don't bug me tonight and I have no candy!" was when someone kept their house lights off, turned off the porch light and drew the shades. Am I wrong here?

Tonight I did just that. The house was pitch black and had no trace of living residents in it. I didn't even turn on the lights in the back of the house! AND I kept the dogs distracted in the back of the house far from the street SO NO ONE WOULD BOTHER US. I guess you can see where this is going.

REALLY? REALLY? DID YOU HAVE TO KNOCK AND RING THE DOOR BELL? THE FIRST NINE KNOCKS WENT UNANSWERED AND SO RINGING THE DOOR BELL A COUPLE OF TIMES WAS GOING TO WORK? REALLY?

Oh, it happened more than once. How about ten times? I do not enjoy Halloween.
