Today started off with a ferocious wind, and when I stepped outside this morning I was moved to take pictures of my day by the moodiness of the weather.
These is are two of our models for learning the muscles of humans. He is kind of plain, and we like to call him Bob (you can pull him apart layer by layer, like Mr. Potatohead, only better). We have hundreds of models, but the strange ones are like you see above- the eye! There are twenty different things to identify on this eye model from just the nerves and muscles alone.
-my husband's slug (?) that he is convinced is "twelve years old"... It is longer than this apple is wide, and has at least been here for the whole summer because it is the same one my husband took a picture of in August. It has a fight scar, which is not visible in this picture. When the dogs barreled out the door I saw Juan (the name for the slug), and dashed out to protect him.
This is home, the building I spend most of my days in. It is the newest building on campus, and kind of nice inside... except for the smell of cut-open fetal pigs in the Anatomy labs.
I was going to take a picture of my pig, but I figured that it might be slightly offensive to those of you out there who have no interest in ever seeing dissected animals.
I know that my life is not always very exciting, but I feel the beauty in the moments like these- even if it is as simple as a slug, windy day, or a institutional building. These days are the kind that I will remember for the rest of my life because they are part of the rush of empowerment I feel right now. Spokane might be pretty fugly, but it is the place of the beginning of my growth into identity, and life.
I hope you have a beautiful Saturday.

I love those kind of days and you captured it perfectly.
I enjoyed seeing some of your day. Loved the 12 yr old slug (I mean Juan) too lol. Hope you have a good weekend.
That's funny that you have a pet slug. We have banana slug here, they get bright yellow and huge. I'll take a picture of one next time I'm in the redwoods. I love weather/sky pictures, too bad my current camera is such a cheap piece of crap. I have destroyed 3 good digital cameras, now the craptastic one will last for years. Thanks for no pictures of your vivisection, I had to dissect a pregnant cat once.
It is adorable, the Juan story. I'm still giggling.
Hi. Thanks for a lovely post about the everyday things that are actually quite amazing when you pay attention to them.
Great to feel so good about your life and the process you are in right now. It's the best feeling of all.
Hope you have a wonderful Saturday too.
